Pussy Riot

After seeing what was purported to be a christlike figure on an episode of South Park revealing a t-shirt underneath his robe, which had the words “Free Pussy Riot”, halfway during a news bulletin in which it was also alleged that Pussy Riot’s lawyers are having difficulties registering a brand to the band’s name as a trade mark, it seemed like an altogether nifty idea to check out our own registry, whether the name of the famous (or infamous, depending on how you looked at it) Russian girl band had been snapped up. As it so happens, there are currently 3 different applications in different stages of prosecution:

Among these are two in the name of OOO Kinokompania WEB-BIO (of at 119034 Ostozhenka St. 27, b. 2, app. 9, Moscow, Russian Federation– are these the lawyers??) including a new international application E11182367 in classes 03, 09, 10, 13, 14, 16, 18, 25, 26, 28, 32, 33, 34, 35, 38, 41, 42 and 45. Thats a lot of classes, and for those not familiar with trade mark registration procedure, the above classes are part of a classification system known as nice classification of trade marks(think of them as a system of classifying trademarkable things, such that when one is making an application, you are required to state explicitly in respect of which classes is the application being made). In this case the above classes cover everything from beauty and cosmetics to condoms and bags, clothes, beers, tobacco and “social introduction and networking services” whatever that is. The other application in the name of OOO Kinokompania WEB-BIO is in classes 9, 25 and 41. The final application is in classes 09, 25, 41 for goods including Audio and video recordings, Clothing, footwear, headgear, Production of sound and video recordings and publishing. This appears to have been approved for registration, but has been opposed (Once a trade mark has been approved, it is published in the official journal for several months, to notify the public and where there is an earlier right, invite oppositions to registration).  The proprietor of these application is Timesci. Ltd of Third Floor, 207 Regent Street, London, W1B 3HH.

Looks like there’s a tug of war going on??

Oh,. by the way, the Lawyer in question is called Mark Feigin. Is that surname the Russian equivalent of the comptemptible and Dickensian Fagin?

<CORRECTION/ EDITS 29/11/2012 to correct errors: there are 3 Applications, not 4 >
