Greentech

I have not been able to find a suitable picture for this post, so i will post it without a photo…hang on, i just found one!

Audi A4 1.9 TDI Catalytic Converter This picture is courtesy of the Follettmotors VW Audi Blog http://www.follettmotors.com/vwaudiblog

The catalytic converter is the piece of the exhaust that is located in front of the muffler where pollutants from the engine are converted to normal gases. Converters are essential in the emissions control system of today’s vehicles.  The US introduced clean air legislation in the 1970s and drove innovation by guaranteeing a market. Many engineers said that cleaning up emissions from cars was impossible, but despite their predictions, the catalytic converter was born and there has been a monumental reduction in emissions ever since.

Lately, there have been numerous Cleantech inventions that have gained considerable popularity in technoplogy around the globe, or that appear to be doing so. I just wonder whether any of them will be as effective (and “penetrative”) as catalytic converters have turned out to be?
